Climbing Takes a Step Towards the Olympics

The IOC Executive Board met on the 4th July 2011 in South Africa. One of the most important items on the agenda for climbing was the selection of the short list of sports that will be eligible for inclusion in the 2020 Olympic Program.
The IOC Executive Board agreed that the following sports will be considered for inclusion in the sports programme: baseball, karate, roller sports, softball, sports climbing, squash, wakeboard and wushu.
From this list of eight sports one sport will be selected to be considered for inclusion at the 2020 Olympiad. The Olympics can include a maximum of 28 sports at the Olympics so this next step does not guarantee inclusion in the games but is the first hurdle.
Selection of the sport  will be voted at the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires in 2013.
This is great opportunity, Climbing New Zealand looks forward to supporting the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) in reaching new heights for the sport of Climbing.

Expression Of Interest - NZ Team Manager and Head Coach

At the November meeting of the CNZ committee, James Maguire advised the committee of his intention to stand down from the position of Head Coach for the National Youth Team in 2011.

James has filled the role for a number of years and has ensured that the sport of climbing both nationally and internationally has continued to grow in New Zealand.

In 2010 the committee also developed the role of NZ Team Manager to assist with the development of the team and also as a liaison role with team members and their families.  The committee has decided that this role is essential to the ongoing success of the youth team.

Please register your interest via email, click here, stating what course you would like to attend.
We are also gathering an indication if anyone would like to take the next step, and train to become a Head Judge or President of the Jury.  If you are interested, please inlcude that in the email.
